Selma Glunn
I am from a small town in Wi. When I was a young girl I would watch my Mother doing her craft. I was her model several times as doing portraits was one of her favorites. She and several other friends started an art club and would set up their essels at her restaurant after closing hours and paint into the night. They named the club The Rural Rembrands and the club is bigger then ever to this day which I am a member and past treasurer. When the group started back in the 40's they became the founders of Wisconsin Rural Art Association which became affileated with the University of Wi. The reason was to encourage other rural towns throughout the state and have art contests. Each club would have a once a year art show and the winners of those shows then went to state to get judged again at the University in the fall and receive prestegious awards. The process is still going to this day. I have won several of those awards at state thoughout the years.
I started working in oils and have also dabbled in pastels. My love of art now is using gourds as my canvas. I cut, gouge, woodburn, sculpt, stain and paint the wonderful forms. I think the most fun has been the many possiblilities of using anything as embellishment including lots of natures things. In recent years I spend the winters in Arizona where gourd art is very popular and the natural embellishments are great from the desert and the fact that the gourds are thicker because of the long growing season.
I am new to Fine Art America and have several club members who have joined also. It should be fun sharing experiences we will have at this site and having our own web site.
